Wholesale Pet Supplies for Pet Stores, Groomers and Online Pet Sellers

Pet retail has split into three businesses that buy very differently. An independent pet store buys for a shelf and a regular customer. A groomer buys for a treatment room and sells a handful of retail items at the desk. An online pet seller buys for a listing, a shipping box and a review score. The same case of product can be right for one and wrong for the other two.

American General Distributors supplies factory-sealed, genuine branded pet stock to pet stores, groomers, boarding and daycare businesses, veterinary retail counters and online pet sellers across the United States.

What we carry

Our pet range is focused rather than enormous, and it is weighted towards dog and cat. That is deliberate. A wide catalogue with one unit of everything is no use to a buyer who needs depth on the items that actually repeat.

Alongside pet, we carry health and household, beauty and personal care, perfume, home and kitchen and grocery. For most pet buyers that combination matters more than the pet count on its own, because it is what lets a single order clear the minimum without over-buying one category.

Independent pet stores

A pet store lives on repeat purchases, and the repeat items are consumables. Treats, care products, cleaning and odour control, and the everyday items a customer replaces on a schedule. Hardware and accessories look better on a shelf but turn far more slowly.

Two things decide whether a first wholesale order works for a store. The first is dating: anything consumable needs enough shelf life left to sell through at your rate, not at a national chain’s rate. We will tell you the dating before you commit. The second is depth over breadth: three facings of an item that sells beats one facing of nine items that do not.

Groomers and grooming salons

A grooming business buys in two directions at once, and the two should not be mixed in your head. Back-of-house is what you consume in the treatment room: shampoos, sanitation, cleaning, towels, disposables. Front-of-house is the small retail shelf at the desk, which usually earns more per square foot than anything else in the building.

The desk shelf works when it stocks what the client has just watched you use. A groomer who sells the same care product they used on the dog has a far easier sale than a store selling it cold. Keep it short — a handful of items, sold at the moment the client is paying.

Boarding, daycare and veterinary retail counters

Boarding kennels, daycare and vets share a pattern: high consumption back-of-house, small but reliable retail at the front. Cleaning, sanitation and odour control are the volume categories, and they come from our health and household range as much as from pet. A single order that covers a quarter of sanitation and a month of retail stock is usually the cleanest way to buy.

Online pet sellers and pet e-commerce

Selling pet products online is a different discipline. Your constraints are shipping weight, damage in transit, expiry dating that has to survive your handling time, and a return rate that quietly eats the margin.

Three rules save online pet sellers the most money. Buy for weight, not just for cost — a heavy low-value item can be unprofitable to ship no matter what you paid for it. Buy dating you can actually sell through, since a consumable that arrives with four months left is a markdown waiting to happen. And keep the packaging intact, because sealed manufacturer packaging is what protects you when a buyer disputes condition.

Every unit we ship is factory-sealed in manufacturer packaging. We do not repackage, relabel or break cases.

Pet product resellers

If you resell rather than run a shop — a market stall, a pop-up, a regional distributor, a seller supplying other small retailers — the thing that decides your margin is buying the same item consistently rather than opportunistically. Tell our team what you moved last time and what you expect to move next, and we will quote against that instead of sending a general list.

Dating, storage and the claims line

Consumable pet stock has an expiry date and it is part of the price, not a footnote to it. We check dating before an order ships and we tell you what it is.

Storage matters more than most buyers expect. Treats, care products and anything with an active ingredient degrade in heat, and a stockroom that runs warm in summer will cost you stock. Keep it cool, dry and out of direct sun.

On claims: sell what the label says. If the packaging does not make a health claim, your listing or your shelf talker should not make one either. This is the single most common way a pet reseller gets a listing pulled or a complaint escalated, and it is entirely avoidable.

The $5,000 minimum order value

Our minimum order value is $5,000. It applies to the whole order, not to any single product, and you can mix freely across everything we carry to reach it.

This is the part most pet buyers need to hear plainly. Our pet range on its own is not designed to be a $5,000 order for a single small store. A sensible order takes the pet stock you will genuinely sell in the next couple of months and makes up the balance from cleaning, household, personal care and grocery — stock a pet business consumes anyway, or sells alongside.

If your order will come in below $5,000, contact our team by email or WhatsApp chat and we will look at it with you. Questions about minimum quantities on a specific product are answered the same way, because those quantities move with the manufacturer.

Paperwork before your first order

Wholesale accounts are for businesses buying for resale. Before your first order we will ask for your EIN and a valid resale certificate for your state. Have both ready when you register — missing paperwork is the most common reason a first order waits.

Ordering, payment and despatch

Orders are settled by ACH bank transfer, which is our recommended method. Wire transfer and card payment through Plastiq are available on request — contact our team and we will set that up.

Stock is despatched 3–5 business days after payment clears, from stock held in the United States, and you get tracking as soon as it ships. We supply across the USA and internationally, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, Europe, Singapore, Korea and Japan.

Common questions from pet buyers

Do you sell single units?
No. We supply sealed manufacturer cases at wholesale, with a $5,000 minimum on the order.

Can I order pet stock only?
You can, if the pet order reaches $5,000. Most single-store buyers do better mixing pet with cleaning, household and personal care.

Will you tell me the expiry dating before I pay?
Yes. Ask when you order and we will confirm it for the specific stock allocated to you.

Do you supply live animals, food requiring refrigeration, or prescription products?
No. We supply shelf-stable, factory-sealed consumer product only.

Opening a wholesale account

Tell us what kind of pet business you run and what you sell most of, and we will put together a first order sized to your shelf and your turnover rather than to a price break.
