Wholesale Health & Household Distributors USA: How to Choose One

If you are sourcing vitamins, first aid, cleaning and paper goods to resell, the supplier you pick decides more than your unit cost. It decides whether the stock arrives with usable dating, whether the case count matches what you costed, and whether you can reorder the same item in eight weeks. This guide sets out how wholesale health and household distributors in the USA actually work, what to check before a first order, and how we handle each of those points at American General Distributors.

Distributor, wholesaler, reseller: why the label matters here

In health and household goods the three words describe three different levels of risk. A distributor buys from the manufacturer or an authorised source and holds stock in its own warehouse, so it can tell you the lot code and the date on the case you are about to buy. A wholesaler buys from distributors and may hold nothing at all. A reseller lists stock it has not seen, sourced from whoever answered first.

For consumables that difference is not academic. Anything ingested, applied to skin, or used on a surface in a home carries a date, and the further down the chain you buy, the older that date tends to be and the vaguer the answer when you ask about it.

Six checks that separate a real supplier from a middleman

Run these before the first order, not after the first problem.

  1. Ask for the case count and the case dimensions. A supplier holding the goods answers in seconds. One that is drop-shipping from a source it has never visited will estimate, and your freight quote will be wrong.
  2. Ask what date is on the stock today. Not the shelf life from manufacture, the date printed on what is in the warehouse now. Vague answers here are the single clearest signal to walk away.
  3. Ask how a short or damaged case is handled. A supplier with a process names a window and a method. One without will improvise after it happens.
  4. Ask whether it can repeat the order. A one-off parcel of closeout stock is a different business from a supply relationship. Both are legitimate; only one lets you build a shelf.
  5. Ask who you will be dealing with. Trade supply runs on a named contact who answers the same day, not a ticket queue.
  6. Ask for the paperwork requirements up front. A supplier that is genuinely selling for resale will ask you for a resale certificate. One that never mentions it is selling to anyone, which tells you what your competition on price will look like.

The paperwork that decides whether you can buy at all

Trade supply in the USA runs on tax-exempt resale. If you are a US buyer, you register with your EIN and resale certificate so the sale is correctly invoiced tax-exempt, and that registration is what unlocks wholesale pricing. If you are buying from outside the USA, you do not need a US account at all; you order directly and the export paperwork is handled with the shipment. We have set out the detail in the guide to resale certificates and tax-exempt buying.

Case packs, minimum quantities and order value

Two numbers matter and they are not the same number. Every product has its own minimum quantity, shown in the box above Add to cart, which is the smallest amount of that item we sell. Separately, our minimum order value is $5,000 across the whole order, and you reach it by mixing and matching different products in whatever quantities suit you. You do not have to take $5,000 of any one item.

That combination is deliberate. It lets a buyer testing a new category spread a first order across several products at their minimums rather than committing the whole budget to one guess. If the order you want comes to less than $5,000, contact our team by email or WhatsApp chat and we will help you build it. How MOQ and case packs work covers the arithmetic in full.

Dating, lot codes and shelf life: the part that costs people money

This is where health and household differs from every other category we supply. A case of shampoo and a case of vitamins both carry dates, but they behave differently on a shelf.

Supplements and anything ingested are the tightest. Retailers and marketplaces generally want a meaningful run of shelf life remaining on arrival, and if you are selling online, the platform may enforce a minimum. Buy short-dated stock and you are not buying a bargain, you are buying a deadline.

Personal care, cleaning and paper goods are more forgiving, but formulations still change and packaging gets refreshed. Stock from a superseded pack looks identical in a listing photograph and does not sell at the same rate once a customer sees it beside the current one.

Ask about dating before you ask about price. A supplier that leads with price and goes quiet on dates is telling you which of the two it controls.

What actually decides whether a product makes money

The case price is the smallest part of the calculation. Landed cost per unit is the case price plus inbound freight, divided by the units in the case, and case counts vary far more than people expect across products at similar case prices. Two products can carry the same case price and leave you with materially different per-unit costs because one packs 24 and the other packs 48.

Add the platform or retail fee you will pay on the way out, and the picture changes again. We quote pricing against your order rather than publishing fixed break points, because the honest answer depends on the mix, the quantities and where it is shipping.

How deep to go on something you have not sold before

As shallow as the minimum allows. The first order on any product is buying information, not stock: how fast it moves for your customers, what it costs you to ship, what it returns at. Spread the first order across several candidate products at their minimums, learn which ones moved, and put the depth behind those. That is also the cheapest way to reach the $5,000 order value while learning something useful from every case in the shipment.

What we supply

Our deepest categories are health and household and beauty and personal care, alongside perfume and fragrance, home and kitchen, pet supplies and grocery and gourmet food. Everything ships factory-sealed in the manufacturer’s own case pack; we do not break cases.

Ordering, payment and despatch

Orders are settled by ACH bank transfer. Once the payment clears we confirm the order and despatch within 3 to 5 business days, and you get a second email with tracking as soon as it ships. Wire transfer and international SWIFT are available for buyers whose banks work that way; ask us first and we will set it up.

We ship across the USA and worldwide. The USA is where most of our buyers are, and we regularly supply buyers in Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, Europe, Singapore, Korea and Japan.

Common questions

What is the minimum order?

Our minimum order value is $5,000 across the whole order, and you can mix and match different products in whatever quantities you like to reach it. Each product also shows its own minimum quantity above Add to cart. For an order below $5,000, contact our team by email or WhatsApp chat.

Do you sell to individuals?

No. This is trade supply, sold by the case to businesses that resell.

Can I split a case?

No. Cases ship sealed exactly as the manufacturer packed them, which is what lets us guarantee what is inside.

Is the stock genuine branded product?

Yes. Everything is genuine branded stock in factory-sealed manufacturer case packs.

Do I need a US company to buy?

No. US buyers register with an EIN and resale certificate so the sale is tax-exempt. International buyers order directly without an account.

How long does despatch take?

3 to 5 business days from the moment your payment clears, then tracking by email.

Do you ship outside the USA?

Yes, worldwide. Most of our buyers are in the USA, and we ship regularly to Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Australia, Europe, Singapore, Korea and Japan.
